Ferrari 330 P4: The Revenge

In 1966, Ford humiliated Ferrari at Le Mans with the GT40. Enzo Ferrari was furious. He ordered his engineers to build a weapon to strike back. The result was the 330 P4.

The Daytona Finish

In 1967, at the 24 Hours of Daytona, Ferrari destroyed Ford.

  • The Finish: Three Ferraris (two 330 P4s and one 412 P) crossed the finish line side-by-side in a staged photo finish. It was the ultimate “take that” to Henry Ford II.
  • The Looks: With its low roof, muscular wheel arches, and wraparound glass, the P4 is widely voted the best-looking race car of all time.

The Engine

  • Displacement: 4.0 Liters.
  • Valves: 3 valves per cylinder (two intake, one exhaust). This was a unique Ferrari innovation derived from F1.
  • Power: 450 hp.
  • Sound: The exhaust pipes are a tangled “bundle of snakes” on top of the engine, creating a high-pitched scream.

Rarity

Only one completely original 330 P4 exists today. The others were converted or crashed. It is essentially priceless.
