Pininfarina Battista: Beauty and the Beast
For 90 years, Pininfarina designed the world’s most beautiful cars for other people (mostly Ferrari). In 2019, they decided it was time to build their own. The Battista (named after the company’s founder, Battista “Pinin” Farina) is the first car sold under the Automobili Pininfarina brand.
The Rimac Connection
Pininfarina is a design house, not an EV startup. So they partnered with Rimac.
- The Heart: The Battista shares its rolling chassis, 120 kWh battery, and quad-motor powertrain with the Rimac Nevera.
- The Numbers: 1,900 hp (1,417 kW) and 2,340 Nm of torque.
- Performance: 0-100 km/h in 1.86 seconds. 0-200 km/h in 4.75 seconds.
Design: Purity Over Tech
While the Rimac Nevera looks like a piece of tech, the Battista looks like a piece of art.
- The Line: It follows the classic Pininfarina “single line” philosophy. It is curvaceous, elegant, and devoid of aggressive wings (until you hit the brakes).
- The Sound: Pininfarina hired sound engineers to create a unique “Suono Puro” frequency (54 Hz) that resonates through the chassis to give the car a “voice” without faking engine noise.
Driving: The Grand Tourer
Pininfarina tuned the software differently from Rimac.
- Calma Mode: In this mode, it is a smooth, silent luxury GT.
- Furiosa Mode: This unlocks the full 1,900 hp. The torque vectoring is tuned to be less twitchy than the Rimac, focusing on stability and grace rather than drift angles.
Conclusion
The Battista is the prettier sister of the Nevera. It is arguably the most beautiful electric car ever made, proving that the future of performance doesn’t have to look like a spaceship.
