Pagani Huayra R: The Sound of Freedom

The standard Huayra uses a Twin-Turbo V12. It is powerful, but the sound is muffled by the turbos. For the track-only Huayra R, Horacio Pagani wanted the noise back. He commissioned HWA (the race team that runs Mercedes DTM cars) to build a brand new engine from scratch.

The V12-R Engine

This engine is a masterpiece.

  • Configuration: 6.0-liter Naturally Aspirated V12.
  • Weight: It weighs only 198 kg.
  • Redline: 9,000 rpm.
  • Power: 850 hp.
  • Sound: It uses equal-length Inconel headers to create a sound frequency that mimics the V12 F1 cars of the 1990s. It is deafeningly loud and beautiful.

Chassis: Carbo-Triax

The chassis uses Pagani’s latest composite materials (Carbo-Triax HP62).

  • Safety: The seats are integrated into the monocoque for safety and stiffness.
  • Roll Cage: An FIA-spec roll cage is integrated into the carbon roof.

Aerodynamics

Unlike the road-going Huayra which uses active flaps, the Huayra R uses a massive fixed rear wing and diffuser.

  • Downforce: It generates 1,000 kg of downforce at 320 km/h.

Arte in Pista

Buying a Huayra R ($3 million) gets you entry into the “Arte in Pista” (Art on Track) program. Pagani organizes track days at the world’s best circuits (Monza, Spa, Yas Marina) where owners can drive their cars without noise limits, supported by factory mechanics and pro drivers. It is the ultimate club for the V12 connoisseur.
