McLaren Solus GT: From Pixel to Reality
Usually, concept cars in video games (Gran Turismo) stay in the game. McLaren decided to build theirs. The Solus GT is a track-only hypercar that brings the “Vision Gran Turismo” concept to life.
The Engine: V10 Power
McLaren usually uses V8s. The Solus uses a 5.2-liter V10.
- Builder: Built by Judd Power (famous for F1 engines in the 90s).
- Rev Limit: It revs to 10,000 rpm.
- Power: 840 hp.
- Sound: It sounds like a 2000s Formula 1 car.
Design: Single Seater
The Solus GT is a single-seater.
- Canopy: The entire roof slides forward to let you in (like a fighter jet).
- Central Seat: You sit alone in the middle.
- Aero: The wheels are enclosed in pods. The rear wing is integrated into the wheel fenders. It generates 1,200 kg of downforce.
The Experience
Buying a Solus GT ($3.5 million) includes a custom-molded seat (molded to your body shape) and an FIA-spec race suit. It is the closest you can get to driving a futuristic Formula 1 car without being a pro driver.
