Koenigsegg Agera RS: The King of Speed
The Koenigsegg Agera RS is the ultimate evolution of the Agera platform. It combines the track focus of the Agera R with the technology of the One:1. Only 25 units were built.
The Nevada Run
On November 4, 2017, Koenigsegg shut down an 11-mile stretch of Route 160 in Pahrump, Nevada. Factory driver Niklas Lilja took a customer’s Agera RS and smashed five world records.
- Top Speed: 447.19 km/h (277.87 mph). This was the two-way average required for the Guinness World Record.
- Max Speed: On the downhill run, the car hit 457.94 km/h (284.55 mph).
- 0-400-0 km/h: 33.29 seconds.
It beat the Bugatti Veyron Super Sport’s record and held the title of “Fastest Production Car” for years until the Bugatti Chiron Super Sport 300+ and SSC Tuatara arrived.
The Engine: 1 Megawatt Upgrade
The standard Agera RS produces 1,160 hp. However, most owners opted for the 1 Megawatt Upgrade.
- Power: This bumps the power to 1,360 hp (1 MW), matching the One:1.
- Fuel: It runs on E85 biofuel to achieve this power. On regular pump gas, it dials back the boost.
Triplex Suspension
The Agera RS features the unique Triplex Suspension system at the rear.
- The Third Damper: In addition to the two standard shock absorbers, there is a third damper connecting the two rear wheels horizontally.
- Function: This prevents the car from “squatting” under hard acceleration (anti-squat) and keeps the car level at high aerodynamic loads, ensuring the geometry remains perfect at 280 mph.
Aerodynamics
The RS features active aerodynamics.
- Front Flaps: Active flaps under the splitter.
- Rear Wing: A massive active rear wing that can generate 450 kg of downforce at 250 km/h.
- Dynamic: The wing angle changes constantly based on speed, steering angle, and braking (acting as an air brake).
Legacy
The Agera RS is the car that put Koenigsegg on the map as the “King of Speed.” It proved that a small Swedish company could build a car in a hangar that could beat the mighty Volkswagen Group (Bugatti) on a public road. It is widely considered one of the greatest hypercars ever made.
