Cisitalia 202: The Most Beautiful Car?
You have probably never heard of it, but the Cisitalia 202 is one of the most important cars in history. Designed by Pininfarina in 1947, it was the first car where the fenders were fully integrated into the body. Before this, cars had separate fenders and headlights (like the pre-war era). The 202 established the “modern” shape of the automobile.
MoMA
In 1951, the Museum of Modern Art in New York put a Cisitalia 202 on display as an example of “Rolling Sculpture.” It is still in their permanent collection.
Performance
- Engine: A tiny 1.1-liter Fiat engine.
- Power: 55 hp.
- Speed: 160 km/h. It wasn’t fast. But it proved that a car could be art. It influenced the design of the Porsche 356 and the Ferrari 166.
